On September 27th, Elgin High School will be having its first blood drive of the year! The blood drive will be taking place in the high school library. If you wish to sign up, talk to a Student Council member or sign up on the sheet hanging outside Mrs.Cunningham’s door. You are eligible to donate blood if you are 16 years or older. Before saying you don’t want to donate blood, make sure to remember that donating your blood can save up to 3 peoples lives!

Here are a few things to know before donating blood.

If you are 16 years you must:

  • weigh 125 pounds or more
  • have a signed permission slip
  • have some form of I.D. (student I.D., driver’s license or permit, transcript, etc.)

If you are 17 years old you must:

  • weigh 125 pounds or more
  • have some form of I.D. (student I.D., driver’s license or permit, transcript, etc.)

If you are 18 years or older you must:

  • weight 110 pounds or more
  • have some form of I.D. (student I.D., driver’s license or permit, transcript, etc.)

These myths about donating blood are NOT TRUE:

  • You can’t donate blood if you are anemic
  • You can’t donate blood if you’ve had your flu shot
  • You can’t donate if you’ve had a piercing or tattoo recently
  • You can’t donate if you’ve been out of the country

If you donate blood, you will receive a FREE OU or  OSU t-shirt.
