Tug boat towing barges hits SH 51 bridge in Wagoner County Monday

WAGONER — A tug boat towing four barges has struck the State Highway 51 Verdigris River bridge Monday, the Oklahoma Highway Patrol reports.

Troopers have responded to assist Oklahoma Department of Transportation and the U.S. Coast Guard at the navigational channel about 5 miles west of Wagoner in Wagoner County.

About 5:40 a.m. a tug boat towing the four barges struck the SH 51 bridge.

The bridge is standing. There was no visible damage reported.

U. S. Coast Guard requested that the SH 51 left lane of eastbound traffic will be shut down until a complete inspection of the bridge can be performed, the patrol reports.

ODOT is on the scene and requesting units to assist with traffic control while they inspect the bridge. Check NewsOK.com for updates.
