Teacher pay raise fails

Pay raise fails once again at state address given by Governor Mary Fallin. Although many schools states have had local bonds pass but the simply pay raise bill just won’t pass. Due to low pay some schools are having a hard time hiring teachers and/or keeping good teachers in classrooms. This will/is effecting students’ grades and futures. Currently schools are urged to be more efficient by spending a larger chuck on classrooms (60%) and less on out of classroom expenses (40%). This means less quality in other parts of schools such as food, school events, and field trips.

What Is Going On With OKC Thunder?!?!

Image result for oklahoma city thunder big 3

The Oklahoma City Thunder were predicted to be placed the 2nd seed in the western conference before the 2017-18 NBA Season started. Right now, they are currently the 7th seed. That is not bad but after acquiring valuable assets like Paul George (19.9 PPG) and Carmelo Anthony (17.3 PPG), the thunder are expected to do better. They also have the 2016-17 NBA season MVP Russell Westbrook (23.3 PPG).  The only reasonable explanation is that the whole roster is losing their team chemistry.  They lost many of their teammates after trading for George and Anthony and the team chemistry must have been impacted. The Thunder still have 48 games left till the season end and hopefully they will be a superteam like everyone expected.

Radon, what is it and why is it a big problem?

Beware or Radon!

Most people reading this probably do not know what “Radon” is.  I didn’t at first either, but Radon is a rare radioactive gas which is a big problem in many parts of Comanche county.  Now some people think “well if it’s such a major problem, why not just remove it?”  The complication with that is it is a quite expensive appliance for a common household budget.  Prices can range from $100 to $566.

Finale

It is very important that places with high levels of Radon invest in any system of Radon mitigation because it can cause serious health problems such as chest pain, shortness of breath, and even lung cancer. It is not easy to detect because Radon is an invisible, odorless, tasteless gas. It is important to have proper professional testing yearly or every two years so it’s not too late.

Be aware and assure your family is safe before any illnesses.

Grass Fires in our area

Source: KSWO

Over the last weekend, there was a few grass fires and it was between our area. Firefighters responded to three grass fires in the Lawton area on Saturday. Fire departments from Flower Mound, Valley View, and Geronimo contained the fires quickly.

During the winter months in Oklahoma, the grass is very dry and with the lack of rainfall, the grass in our area is very susceptible to fires. With Elgin sitting next to the artillery range and the interstate, we have a lot open grass areas to be concerned about.

Locally, we have a very good volunteer fire department that responds quickly, but it is up to us to help prevent the fires from happening. Outside of the fires that start on the military base, most of the grass fires occur because of humans being careless. Everyone needs to be aware that even a small spark can create a grass fire.

So, everyone needs to do their part to help keep our community save from grass fires this winter.
