Elgin Public School Under Construction

Starting Wednesday the 14th of March 2018 the visitor parking lot located at the football field will be closed until further notice due to construction projects that are ongoing on the Elgin Public School Campus. Parents, Students, Faculty and the Elgin community when you are around the school’s football field use caution due to heavy machinery moving around the backend of the campus. Also, anyone who parked at the visitor parking lot look for a new parking spot due to the construction.

100th Anniversary of Henry Post Army Airfield concert

On April 6th, 2018 from 6:45 p.m. to 10 p.m. there will be a concert at the Fort Sill Polo Field. The Gary Sinise and the LT. Dan Band is returning to give all dependents and military affiliations a free concert. The performance includes Country singer Chris Bullard and Stolen Silver an Indie folk band who will open the show. Free and Open to the public. Gates open at 6 p.m.

Also on April 7th, 2018 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. they will hold the 100th Anniversary of  Henry Post Army Airfield Celebration. Come out and see historical aircraft, you will also see Field Artillery and Air Defense Artillery displays such as HIMARS, THAAD and Avenger Launchers and more. The highlight of the day is the airshow which begins at 2 p.m.

The events and displays that will be on the Polo Field on April 7th, 2018 are:

Ground Static Displays

  • Field Artillery – M119A3, M109A6, Stryker, HIMARS, and M270
  • Air Defense Artillery Displays – THAAD Launcher, Avenger and Patriot Launcher

10:00 a.m. – Official start of Centennial Henry Post Army Airfield (HPAAF)

10:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. Public viewing of all displays

1:00 p.m. – Fort Sill Half Section Demonstration

1:45 p.m. – Short Historical Snapshot of HPAAF as “Original Army Airfield”

2:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. – Airshow

Elgin High School Blood Drive

It will be located in the High School Library from 8:30 a.m. till 2:30 p.m. If you would like to donate find a student council member or contact Mrs. Cunningham at 580-492-3670 to schedule an appointment. Irish Beef Stew

Looking for a recipe for St. Patty’s day here is a recipe that is easy and delishes.  Serves about 6 people and takes about 1 hour and 55 minutes to be fully ready to serve, 15 minutes to prep and 1 hour and 40 minutes to cook. Image result for irish beef stew


  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 pound stew meat, cut into 1-inch cubes
  • Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 onion, diced
  • 1 leek, thinly sliced
  • 2 carrots, peeled and diced
  • 1 tablespoon tomato paste
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley leaves
  • 1 teaspoon fresh thyme leaves
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup frozen peas

Garlic Mashed Potatoes:

  • 2 pounds russet potatoes, peeled and quartered
  • 4 cloves garlic
  • 1/2 cup half and half*
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste


  1. To make the garlic mashed potatoes, place potatoes and garlic in a large stockpot or Dutch oven and cover with cold water by 1 inch. Bring to a boil and cook until tender, about 15-20 minutes; drain well and return to the stockpot.
  2. Stir in half and half and butter. Using a potato masher, mash until smooth and creamy; set aside.
  3. Heat olive oil in a large stockpot or Dutch oven over medium heat. Season beef with salt and pepper, to taste. Add beef to the stockpot and cook until evenly browned, about 2-3 minutes; set aside.
  4. Add garlic, onion, leek and carrots to the stockpot. Cook, stirring occasionally, until tender, about 3-4 minutes. Stir in tomato paste until well combined, about 1 minute.
  5. Whisk in beef broth, beer, parsley, thyme, bay leaf and beef; season with salt and pepper, to taste. Bring to a boil; reduce heat, cover and simmer until the beef is tender, about 90 minutes.
  6. In a small bowl, combine butter and flour. Add mixture to the stockpot until thickened, about 2-3 minutes. Stir in frozen peas until heated through, about 1-2 minutes.
  7. Serve immediately with garlic mashed potatoes.

Park Stomp Music Festival 2018


On March 23th through the 25th 2018 in Medicine Park Oklahoma. Come out and celebrate the coming of spring amid cobblestone-lined streets at Park Stomp. Movie Marathon Indiana Jones at Letra

Image result for indiana jones movie marathonOn Saturday, February 10, 2018, from 10 am to 5 pm at Letra Lodge Fort Sill, Oklahoma will hold a movie marathon showing all the Indiana Jones movies from start to finish. The movie will start at 10 a.m. and last until the last movie in the series. Bring your friends and family to watch the Indiana Jones Series its open to the public. Bring your blankets, camp chairs, and pillows for this all-day event! There will be hot dogs, nachos, and popcorn available for purchase.

Slow-Cooker Pulled Pork


Level: Easy


  • 1 Onion, finely chopped
  • 3/4 c. ketchup
  • 3 tbsp. tomato paste
  • 1/4 c. apple cider vinegar
  • 1 tsp. paprika
  • 1 tsp. garlic powder
  • 1 tsp. mustard powder
  • 1 tsp. cumin
  • 1 3- to 4-lb pork shoulder, trimmed of excess fat
  • Coleslaw, for serving
  • Barbecue sauce, for serving
  • buns, for serving


  1. Combine onion, ketchup, tomato paste, apple cider vinegar and spices in the bowl of a slow cooker. Stir until evenly combined. Season with salt and pepper. Add the pork shoulder and toss to coat the meat in the sauce. Cover the slow cooker and cook on high for 5-6 hours, until tender.
  2. Remove pork from slow cooker and transfer to bowl. Shred pork with two forks and toss pork with juices from the slow cooker. Serve on buns with coleslaw.
